Sometimes, we even use it in our food! 🙂

Did you know there are over 250 wineries in Virginia? The good news is that 14 of them are conveniently located in the Chesapeake Bay and Hampton Roads area and are within driving distance to Warner Hall. One is even located in our backyard in historic Williamsburg!

After breakfast on the River Porch at Warner Hall, plan a wine tour and taste some of Virginia’s finest wines!

• Athena Vineyards & Winery:

Established in 2002, Athena Vineyards and Winery Athena has become the first commercial vineyard and winery in Northumberland County, Virginia. Their handcrafted wines have received accolades from many National and International competitive wine-judging contests. Visit them and see for yourself!

• Belle Mount Vineyards:

If you love wine and the great outdoors, then Bell Mount Vineyards is the winery for you! Located on the rolling hills of Heritage Park Resorts, Bell Mount Vineyards offers wine tasting workshop getaways that include cottage rentals, camping, fishing and hiking. While you are there be sure to check out their most popular fine wines, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cab Franc.

• General’s Ridge Vineyard:

Located in the heart of Virginia’s historic Northern Neck, take a step back in time when you visit General’s Ridge Vineyard. George Washington referred to this area as “the Garden of Virginia.” The vineyard produces wines from their 14 varieties of grapes.

• Good Luck Cellars:

Good Luck Cellars sits atop a parcel of land once used as a sand and gravel mine. The land was perfect for cultivating grapes vines and today the vineyard contains 12 acres of those vines.

• Ingleside Vineyards:

Voted “Best Winery in Eastern Virginia” in 2011, 2012 and 2014 by the “Best of Virginia” campaign, Ingleside Vineyards is the perfect getaway. Enjoy exceptional wines and rich history in Virginia’s Northern Neck. Ingleside was the first winery in Virginia to produce a methode champenoise sparkling wine and also the first winery in Virginia to bottle a varietal Petit Verdot, now one of our flagship wines and recent winner of “Best Petit Verdot” at the 2012 San Francisco International Wine Competition.

• Jacey Vineyards:

With seven docks on their own private cove, flowing directly into Mill Creek and The Chesapeake Bay, Jacey Vineyards is one of only a few vineyards nationwide at which visitors can arrive by boat. There are seven different grape varieties grown throughout the vineyards that compliment an extensive collection of Spanish imports exclusive to Jacey Vineyards.

• New Kent Winery:

This17,000-square-foot winery is equipped with state-of-the-art wine-making equipment from around the world. The winery itself, designed by Williamsburg architect John Hopke, has been modeled to reflect an earlier time when wine-making was common in the New Kent, Virginia region. Beautiful heart-pine trusses were reclaimed from a 1901 Southern Railroad Depot located in the Shockoe Bottom area of Richmond,Virginia. Heart pine structural timbers and floor timbers were recovered from a Connecticut warehouse circa 1852. The stunning exterior facade of the winery was achieved using handmade, pre-Civil War bricks. Planting the first vines in 2001, New Kent Winery now produces Chardonnay, Reserve Chardonnay, Merlot, White Merlot, Meritage, Vidal Blanc, and Norton – a grape native to Virginia.

• Oak Crest Vineyard & Winery:

Enjoy the taste of Europe on Virginia’s Northern Neck! Opening in 2002, Oak Crest Vineyard and Winery involved a combination of genetics, scientific bent, fortunate opportunities and the urge to create good wine and share it with others. Their vineyards boast half red and half white grapevines.

• Pungo Ridge Winery:

This small family owned winery in the Pungo section of Virginia Beach was started in early 2010. Specializing in country wines made from local Pungo grown fruits, Pungo Ridge Winery farms approximately five acres of grapevines in addition to a honeybee operation for their honey wines. One top seller is their blackberry wine that won the Bronze Medal at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition in 2013.

• Saudé Creek Vineyards:

Saude’ Creek is a privately owned and operated vineyard and winery located on the Pamunkey River in historic New Kent County. The climate and mineral-rich clay soils of the Tidewater area contribute to the complex, food-friendly wines. The site once boasted Frank’s Tavern, a Colonial inn and public house for wayfarers riding between points north or west and the Colonial capitol of Williamsburg. George Washington and the French General Rochambeau, among other patriots and notables of the time, reputedly slaked their thirst here.

• The Dog and Oyster Vineyard:

The quirky name was created to honor the rescue dogs that rescue the grapes from deer and other animals; and, to honor the oyster, one of the Chesapeake Bay region’s greatest assets. The vineyard consists of more than 6 acres of Vinifera and French American Hybrid vines. There are four varieties of grapes. The two whites are Vidal Blanc and Chardonel. The two reds are Merlot and Chambourcin. Come taste Irvington’s “fruit” and shop for gifts while you savor the grapes and what they can do for the palate and the soul.

• The Hague Winery:

Historic Buena Vista Plantation, circa 1835, on Virginia’s Northern Neck is home to The Hague Winery, a small family business owned by Cynthia and Stephen Madey. The tasting room is housed in a former barn overlooking the manor home, outbuildings, vineyards and surrounding farmland. Take a step back in time and visit this peaceful setting while enjoying some of the Northern Neck’s finest wine. The first wine release was in the spring of 2009 and included Cabernet Franc, Rosé, Chardonel and a Muscat dessert wine. The Meritage Reserve, a Bordeaux-style red blend was released in late February 2010.

• Vault Field Vineyards:

Vault Field Vineyards is located on historic Vault Field Farm near the town of Kinsale, in the heart of Virginia’s Northern Neck. Their award winning wines are the result of a marriage between an exceptional terroir and the latest techniques in viticulture. Vault Field Vineyards believes fine wines are made in the vineyard. The care of the vines is yearlong, starting with hand pruning during winter months. Next comes hand weeding and continued pruning during the growing season. Finally, in late fall, when the grapes ripen, they are hand picked and sorted. The end result?   High quality, premium wines!

• Williamsburg Winery:

Located in our backyard, this 300-acre farm, known as Wessex Hundred, houses The Williamsburg Winery. From humble beginnings, The Williamsburg Winery has experienced continuous growth through an expanding portfolio of wines. Kevin Zraly, a noted wine educator, has opined that The Williamsburg Winery makes “some of the Best Wines in the World.” Currently, Williamsburg Winery’s “Governor’s White” is the best selling Virginia wine in the state.
